The MCR is a social and academic hub for post-graduates students at Worcester College. Throughout the year, the MCR hosts a variety of social and academic events. The MCR building is equipped with a range of facilities, including a bar, games area, lounge / TV room, and a computer lab. A pool table and table football are available for use in the MCR.
Weekly Brunch & Bar Nights
Each Friday, the MCR committee hosts Bar Night from 9-12 p.m., with beers and liquors from around the world. It is a wonderful opportunity to decompress and relax with fellow MCR members after a long week studying.
Each Sunday, the MCR committee runs Brunch from 11:45 a.m – 1 p.m. in the MCR. With bagels, paninis, fruits, coffee, and much more, the weekly brunch is a great way to gear up for the upcoming week.
Dinners & Exchanges
Throughout the Michaelmas, Hilary, and Trinity terms, the Worcester MCR performs formal dinner and wine & cheese exchanges with other Oxford MCRs. These exchanges are great opportunities to experience the cuisines offered by colleges from St.John’s to Queen’s.
Once a year Worcester also runs an exchange with our sister college in Cambridge, St Catharine’s College.
Termly Events
Each term, the MCR plans several extracurricular events to promote culture, arts, and expression.
Recent events have included seeing Amélie the Musical at Oxford New Theatre, a screening of an environmental documentary, and a Queer Solidarity Conference.
Franks Society
The Franks Society is a forum for graduate students to deliver talks on their research or a topic of their choice, covering a diverse range of fields. The talk is followed by a free hot meal.
If you are interested in giving a talk, please contact the Franks Society Organiser as indicated on the Committee & Officers page.

MCR Volunteering and Charities
Worcester is proud to be very active when it comes to supporting charities.
We have a programme of annual engagement and fundraising with three elected charities: a local, a national and an international one. In addition to an opt-out system from student bills, we organise numerous charity events throughout the year including sport days, LGBTQ+ Charity Drinks, charity raffles, the MCR Garden Party, and more.
This year we are supporting: ‘Oxford Gatehouse’ – for homeless people in Oxford; ‘Just like Us’ – for LGBT+ young people in UK; and ‘Water Aid’ – water for Equality, Education and Health.
Together with gathering donations, we also champion raising awareness and engagement. We aim to have charities actively interact with us, conveying their message and promoting volunteering within the student body. For example, ideas have included fundraising, distributing MCR rainbow lanyards and MCR coffee cups for diversity and environmental issues, and organising events with charity workers themselves.
MCR Clubs
The MCR has recently started several clubs, including:
- Board Game Club
- Book Club
- Film Club
- Poetry Club
Graduate students are also welcome to join college groups, such the Buskins Dramatic Society or college sports clubs. The wider university hosts a variety of groups you can join as well, from social activities like dancing, groups focused on academic subjects, or career focused groups that run consulting projects or hackathons.
